The meaning of life in a world without workI found it interesting that when the majority of Amateur Radio folks talk about "work" or a "job" they talk about it in a disparaging way. If at all possible, work is something to be avoided. It is a "means to and end" - a dirty business. Work is an act performed (begrudgingly) in exchange for monetary compensation... monetary compensation needed to provide the basic necessities for life. Suppose your dreams came true and there were no jobs available as the result of automation, artificial intelligence, and outsourcing. And suppose the Government had a solution... Free Money! An unconditional income for the rest of your life. Now what do you do? Here is an interesting statement of the problem and solution... with a special shout-out to Religion. "The crucial problem isn’t creating new jobs. The crucial problem is creating new jobs that humans perform better than algorithms. Consequently, by 2050 a new class of people might emerge – the useless class. People who are not just unemployed, but unemployable.
The real problem will then be to keep the masses occupied and content. People must engage in purposeful activities, or they go crazy.
So what will the useless class do all day? "www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/may/08/virtual-reality-religion-robots-sapiens-book
